Flat Water Paddling. Flat water paddling is a great way to exercise and enjoy the outdoors, and is typically more relaxing and peaceful than whitewater paddling.
Canoers, kayakers and standup paddleboarders all appreciate the pleasures of flat water; it enables the participant a more contemplative view of wildlife in its natural habitat, and allows a safe place to practice paddling skills.
The Tennessee River system provides multiple flat water paddling opportunities, including the Tennessee River Blueway, a 48-mile canoe and kayak trail that runs from Chickamauga Dam to Nickajack Dam and the developing Chickamauga Blueway, which will extend from Chickamauga, GA to Chattanooga.
Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) Stream Flows
For the benefit of fishermen and other recreational users, TVA offers a Reservoir Information Website. Release schedules on area dam-controlled rivers can cause currents to fluctuate greatly from hour to hour.
Outdoor Chattanooga strongly recommends checking stream flows before paddling any dam-controlled or free-flowing river.

River Gauge Information: American Whitewater
