Fishing. The best thing about fishing in Southeast Tennessee is the incredible diversity of fish habitat - from cascading freestone streams in the highlands, to various tributaries and rivers, to the mainstream reservoirs and tailwaters of the Tennessee River.
Tennessee is home to more species of freshwater fish than anywhere in the North American Continent, and nowhere else within the state is the diversity of habitat more pronounced or accessible than in the region around Chattanooga.
Fishing Opportunities are divided into three major categories:
Type I: Lakes or Reservoirs
Type II: Warmwater Streams & Rivers
Type III: Coldwater Streams & Rivers
Each particular waterway has its own unique characteristics - such as water quality, structural elements, content, forage and spawning habitat, etc. that establish which game fish live there. This gives the multi-species fisherman a great variety of locations and species to choose from.
For the benefit of fishermen and other recreational users of TVA's reservoirs, TVA offers a 24 hour automated service providing information on reservoir levels, tributary flows, and expected water releases from their dams. The Chattanooga # is (423)751-2264.
