Road Biking. The terrain around Chattanooga offers some of the most diverse opportunities for all types of cycling. Our mountains offer a challenge to the most experienced cyclists, while our parks and greenways offer a leisure ride for families. There are many rivers with roads or trails running alongside. The outskirts of Chattanooga in all directions provide smaller, less used roads for delightful road rides of any length or challenge. The valleys offer a more gently rolling terrain with awesome views of the surrounding mountains. As highlighted by our nationally known event, the 3-State 3-Mountain Challenge, you can ride over three mountains in three different states all in one day.
There are many different types of cycling with the primary division between road and off-road (or mountain biking) riding. Road riding takes you along the countryside and through urban areas. Cycling is a viable form of transportation. You can travel a relatively long distance at a fairly decent pace. It is good for the environment and for the body. Riding is relatively easy with no great coordination or athletic ability required. (Longer rides require more conditioning.)
Mountain biking takes you into the woods and to places where there are no roads. Singletrack requires a fair amount of coordination and technique. Riding is in more quick spurts, stops and turns, and technical maneuvering.
