Chattanooga Arboretum and Nature Center
The Chattanooga Arboretum and Nature Center is a 300-acre arboretum, botanical garden, historic site and nature center dedicated to the study and conservation of native plant and animal life. The center provides access to Lookout Mtn. and Lookout Creek and features a visitors center, tree house meeting space and the Paddlers' Perch, a six person, elevated camping shelter along the creek. Summer camps, special events and family activities happen year round at the center.
The facility has a three mile driving loop and twelve miles of hiking trails, which join up with a larger network of trails in Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park.
The upper Lookout Mtn. trail system can take visitors to the top of Lookout Mtn. in loops as long as 20 miles. (Map of National Park Trails)
The lower trail system includes the Profile Trail, which affords walkers an excellent sampling of the different terrains in the park, and many smaller spur trails adjacent to it allow further exploration of areas such as the Wildflower Cove, Oliver Freeman's Hollow, the Philp Garden and the Pavilion area.
